Hello and welcome to BroccoliBrains.

We are a 3D animation learning studio exploring new ways of telling stories across the boundaries of different media. With 3D animation at our core, we bring together storytelling, technology and experimentation to create projects ranging from traditional film and animation to games and interactive experiences.

BroccoliBrains is both a creative studio and an open learning environment. A place where emerging artists can experiment, collaborate and discover how their skills can move beyond the boundaries of a single medium.

Learning by making

BroccoliBrains was created as a hybrid learning studio for students working across the field of computer-generated imagery — from 3D animation and visual effects to videogame art and interactive media.

Students work alongside experienced creatives with backgrounds in both design and education, applying their skills to interdisciplinary projects and real-world productions. We believe young professionals learn best by making: by experimenting, collaborating, solving problems and experiencing what it means to bring an idea from its first sketch to a finished work.

The creative industry is constantly changing, and so are the tools we use to create. Rather than simply following these developments, we want to explore what we can do with them.

Our work remains rooted in human-made animation and creative craftsmanship, while embracing experimental technologies that allow us to approach storytelling in unexpected ways. We want technology to expand what artists can do, without losing sight of the people, ideas and creative choices behind the work.

Who are we?

BroccoliBrains was founded by Sanne van der Luik and Quintus Glerum, working together with students from Mediacollege Amsterdam.

Sanne van der Luik

Sanne van der Luik is a professional 3D character rigger working across film, commercials and games. She studied Visual Effects at the Netherlands Film Academy and later received her Master's degree from Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas).

While specialising in character rigging and compositing, Sanne has experience across the entire 3D production pipeline, from the early stages of a project through to its final production. Alongside her work for various media and design studios, she teaches Game Art at Mediacollege Amsterdam.

Within BroccoliBrains, Sanne brings together technical expertise and creative problem-solving, helping students understand not only how things are made, but how the different parts of a production come together.

Quintus Glerum

Quintus Glerum is an animator and digital media artist whose practice combines storytelling with experimental technology. He studied Animation at AKV St. Joost and later received his Master's degree in Media Arts, Design and Technology from the Frank Mohr Institute.

His work explores how emerging technologies can be used to discover new approaches to storytelling and create immersive experiences. Moving between animation, interactive media and technological installations, Quintus experiments with new tools and systems while retaining a strong connection to traditional animation and its principles.

Within BroccoliBrains, he focuses on experimentation, storytelling and finding unexpected ways for different media and technologies to meet.
